🌩️ When God Speaks

A Journey Through Job 38–41: Who Created, Controls, and Comprehends the Universe?

🌌 Who Created the Universe?

📖 Job 38:1–38

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind. Let that sink in—God spoke out of the storm! 🌪️ Imagine Job, broken and full of questions, when suddenly the God of all creation speaks—not to scold, but to reveal. And His first point?

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?” – Job 38:4

Cue holy silence.

God walks Job through the wonders of creation—oceans told where to stop 🌊, the morning commanded to dawn 🌅, storehouses of snow and hail ❄️, the constellations hung in the sky 🌠. It’s God’s gentle way of saying: "Before your questions existed, I existed. And I built everything from nothing."

This part reminds us that the One we pray to is not just loving—He is the architect of the cosmos. No mistake, no chaos, no heartbreak is bigger than Him.

🌍 Who Controls the Universe?

📖 Job 38:39–40:5

God then zooms in—from galaxies to gazelles 🦌. He speaks of mountain goats giving birth, lions hunting prey, and ravens crying out for food.

“Do you know the time when the wild mountain goats bear young?” – Job 39:1“Can you send out lightnings, that they may go, and say to you, ‘Here we are!’” – Job 38:35

Here’s the message: God is in the details. The same God who spoke the stars into being is feeding baby lions and watching the eagle’s flight. 🦅

Sometimes we think God is only in the “big stuff”—miracles and thunder. But He’s also in the ordinary. He controls everything, with wisdom, rhythm, and purpose—even when we don’t see it.

And Job? All he can say is:

“Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth.” – Job 40:4

Because when you finally realize the depth of God’s involvement… you stop talking and start listening. 🎧

🧠 Who Comprehends the Universe?

📖 Job 40:6–41:34

Just when Job thought he had nothing left to say, God continues—not to intimidate. He asks Job if he can tame Behemoth or master Leviathan—creatures wild, powerful, and untouchable.

“Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook… Will he speak soft words to you?” – Job 41:1,3

These are metaphors for everything uncontrollable and unknowable in our lives. And God says: I know them. I made them. I hold them.

This section reminds us that no human fully comprehends the universe or its mysteries. Only God does. And that’s not meant to make us feel small—it’s meant to give us peace. Because if we can’t control it, but He can… we can rest in that. 🕊️

📚 Why I Wrote Timeless Wisdom

These passages moved me deeply—so much so that they formed part of the inspiration for writing the Timeless Wisdom Series. I wanted to create space for reflection, for stillness, and for asking the same kind of questions Job asked.

Books of the Timeless Wisdom Series

were birthed from that desire—to walk intentionally, to listen closely, and to align with God’s voice in the whirlwind.

I don’t write because I know it all. I write because, like Job, I am learning to listen more and speak less, to trust more and fear less.

🙏 A Simple Prayer of Wonder

Dear God,When You speak, creation listens.Remind me that You created everything I see,You control what I cannot,And You comprehend what I will never fully understand. Please bring into my life what is necessary for me to understand wisdom, and remind me that it comes from You alone.Amen.

💛 Be still. Be curious. And when God speaks—listen.Until I write again, stay blessed. 🌸— Nomvula
